SRT (Stapedial Reflexes Threshold) Test impedance-hearing-test, hearing-aid, digital-hearing-aid, widex-hearing-aid, widex-bd, Widex-Hearing-Center, SRT test,

The Stapedial Reflex Threshold (SRT) test is a specialized auditory test used to assess the functioning of the stapedial reflex, a reflex action involving the stapes muscle in the middle ear. This reflex helps protect the inner ear from loud noises and is also involved in regulating sound intensity.

Purpose of the SRT Test

Evaluate Middle Ear Function: It helps determine how well the stapedial reflex is working, which can provide insights into middle ear and auditory nerve function.

Diagnose Hearing Disorders: It can assist in diagnosing conditions that affect the auditory pathway, such as acoustic neuromas or other neural disorders.

Assess Reflex Pathway Integrity: The test evaluates the integrity of the auditory reflex pathway, including the middle ear, auditory nerve, and central auditory pathways.

How the SRT Test is Performed

Preparation: The patient is seated in a soundproof room. Headphones or insert earphones are used to deliver sound stimuli to each ear.

Sound Stimulation: Sounds at various intensities are played into the ear. These sounds are usually low-frequency tones or narrowband noise.

Reflex Measurement: The test measures the reflexive contraction of the stapedius muscle in response to these sounds. This contraction helps protect the inner ear from loud noises.

Threshold Determination: The lowest sound intensity level that triggers the stapedial reflex is recorded. This is known as the reflex threshold.

Results and Interpretation

Normal Reflex: A normal stapedial reflex indicates that the auditory and reflex pathways are functioning correctly.

Absent or Abnormal Reflex: An absent or abnormal reflex can suggest issues such as:

Middle Ear Disorders: Fluid, infection, or ossicular chain problems.

Auditory Nerve Damage: Problems with the auditory nerve or central auditory pathways.

Neurological Conditions: Conditions affecting the central nervous system.
